In Loving Memory of A Very Special Lady |
|
My mother was a very special lady. She had a very hard childhood and even though she was raised in a convent by a group of very disciplinary nuns, she never loss her sense of humor and learned to take life as one of the most important challenges she would ever have. When it came time to go home, she found my grandmother in a not optimal state of health and mind. My grandmother was very sad due to the behavior of her other children. My mother promised to take good care of her and see that she had everything my mother could provide for her. My mother did take care of my grandmother and saw that she had everything that my mother could possible give. My mother was an excellent daughter. She finished the eight grade even though at that time, there was very difficult for a woman to get an education. For the time she lived in, an eight grade education was a blessing as she knew more than the majority of the young women her age and she could earn a little bit more than the majority of women her age. While my grandmother was alive, my mother remained single and totally dedicated to her mother. Of course, life handed my mother a lot of challenges which she faced head on. That there were deep scars as a result of the situations is a given and she never forgot them. My grandmother passed away around 1946 and my mother was devastated. As a matter of fact, as of the day she passed away, she cried every time she thought about my grandmother. |
